Meet the Coaches

Susan Hargreaves: Susan has been coaching with the club since 2002. She has a background as a competitive swimmer with Duncan Laing and the Otago squad of the 70's and has developed sport as her profession in the last 15 years. She runs a successful swim school (TogZone) and works as a sports coordinator at Chilton Saint James School in Lower Hutt.

Susan keeps up to date with as many swimming education opportunities as possible. She is working towards her Skills Coaching qualification and currently holds both the NZ Certificate of Swim Teaching and the Diploma of Swim Teaching. Susan also has her Graduate Diploma in Sports Management from Massey University. Susan is a qualified Swim Safe Tutor and is also able to act as an Evidence Gatherer for those wishing to complete this qualification.

Susan belongs to many professional organisations including the New Zealand Swim Coaches and Teachers, Australian Swim Coaches and Teachers Association and Swim Australia.

Shelley Nightingale: Shelley joined TogZone Swim School in 1999 and is a qualified swimming instructor. She rejoined Upper Hutt Swimming Club as a coach in 2004 and has ???

Yasodha Narayanan: Yasodha is a student at Chilton Saint James School with a background in competitive swimming and waterpolo.

Steve Nightingale: Steve joined Upper Hutt Swimming Club in 2005. He has watched his eldest daughter (Shelley) compete at the club level and is keen to give back his wisdom to the young children in the club today. Steve is also a qualified timekeeper. Other past interests include Umpiring Indoor Cricket at National Champs. Former National Junior Judo Champ and Rugby and Cricket playing, coaching and administration over many years.

Often when the programme appears at the beginning of each session it can look like another language is being place in front of you and it takes time to understand all the various ways that a coach abbreviates words so that they fit onto the whiteboard or sheet being used. Here are some of the abbreviations we use.
