Welcome to Upper Hutt Swimming ClubHello and Welcome to Upper Hutt Swimming Club. Our club is an Incorporated Society run by parents for the benefit of our kids. We are a small family orientated club with an average of 40 learn to swim students and 55 competitive swimmers.
Learn to SwimLearn to Swim is based at Trentham School Pool and runs during the 4th term of school and the following year's first term. Training sessions start from 6:30pm and go through to 8:30pm. Each session last for 25 minutes. The kids least able to swim start in the first session, and progress to later start times as they develop the necessary swimming skills. It is important that you join Learn to Swim at the beginning of its season (Term 4). It is incredibly popular and each year we a forced to turn kids away. Registration days are always published in the Upper Hutt Leader. Last season Learn to Swim cost $50 a term??? To move up to swim club the swimmer must be competent in all strokes and be able to do 50m freestyle. Swim club swimmers are expected to enter local competitions.
Swim ClubThe swim year is from April to March. it is split into two seasons; winter and summer. Winter Training runs from early May to late September 2006. There are two swim nights; Monday and Wednesday. You may choose to do one or both nights. Swimming is from 6:00pm to 7:15pm. Competitive swimmers can also do some early morning training from 6am to 7pm. Summer swimming goes from around xx to yy. Swim nights/days and times are the same as for winter training. Every fortnight during the summer season a club night is held. Here kids swim in timed races. This gives them experience for competitive swimming, earns them points for trophies, and allows the coaches to track the children's performance. Swim fees depend on how many swimming sessions the swimmer does, what sessions times the swimmer attends, and how many family members are in the club. An average parent would pay $205 to have one child swim twice a night during summer and winter. Swim fees are outlined in the Fee Schedule. You can join at nearly anytime of the year, and subject to when you join, some discount of club fees may be available.
Swim CampAn annual swim camp has been held in recent years for some of the older competitive swimmers. The camp takes the form of two or three nights away from home where the swimmers get to do lots of laps, do some cross-training, get lots of stroke coaching, and learn about other things like nutrition and sports psycology. Fun activities are also built into the days' activities. Recent venues have been the Attrium Hotel in Wellington and Huntley Boys School in Marton. Check out the Marton camp in our photo gallery.
