The choir is currently around 35 strong, and we could do with more tenors and basses.

We rehearse on Monday nights in the Pettit Centre, which is the hall next-door to Our Lady of Grace church, on the corner of Fergusson Drive and Palmer Crescent, in Heretaunga.

As a community choir, we will accept all comers, but obviously we welcome people with some knowledge of musical notation. Any auditions would be mainly to establish a singer's vocal range (soprano or alto, tenor or bass).

For 2009, we did not have a permanent conductor; Bevis Marsland, one of our three tenors, stood in, and conducted our pre-Christmas concert in Our Lady of Grace church.

We usually give three concerts a year in Upper Hutt, in churches or school halls as appropriate; sometimes we combine with other choirs and give a second concert in their area; and we have recently been participating in some of the Hutt Valley Concert Orchestra's concerts.

The music we sing varies from early sacred music, often in Latin, to arrangements of folk music, and twentieth-century songs from musical shows.  At various times we have sung in German, French, Spanish, without major problems, but the majority of music is in English or Latin

We look forward to Joanne Roelofs, who married recently, taking over fas conductor in 2010.  Rehearsals will recommence on February 8; so far, programme contents include the VivaldiGloria and John Tavener's The Lamb.
