The benefit system structure is based on a number of 'main benefits' which are designed to deal with the person's general situation. See 'Main Benefits'.

Added to these are supplementary allowances to address particular personal situations and costs.  In addition, particular 'emergency' situations, where unexpected costs arise, are dealt with by one-off grants which may  or may not be recovered from future benefit payments.  See 'Supplementaries'.
