Welcome to the City of Upper Hutt Cadet Unit Homepage!

What is ‘Cadets’?

New Zealand Cadet Forces (NZCF) is a youth leadership training scheme run in partnership between the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) and the local community. It is open to young people between the ages of 13 and 18 years old.

What does the NZCF do?

The NZCF has three arms: the Air Training Corps, the Sea Cadet Corps and the New Zealand Cadet Corps. Each arm runs a nationally coordinated program for New Zealand youth which is designed to:

  • foster a spirit of adventure and teamwork;
  • develop the qualities of mind and body essential for good citizens and leaders;
  • provide challenging and disciplined training activities, which are useful in either Service or civilian life; and
  • promote an awareness of the Armed Forces, and the role they play in the community.
